Climate & Environment

Somalia is in Eastern Africa at 10 00 N and 49 00 E, it has a total area of 637, 657 square kilometres. Somalia’s coastline extends 2,720 kilometers along the Gulf Aden and the Indian Ocean. Its topography ranges from hilly in the north, where the land rises to between 900 and 2,100 meters above sea level, to flats in the central and southern regions (USDS, 2010).Somalia is a country lay under the tropical zone which most of regions hot and dry for the whole year. The country has two rainfall and two dry seasons Gu season started from the late of April till early of June while Deyr season which is also a popular rainy season occur for the months oct to December, these seasons there is abundance of a fresh supply of pasture and for a short term turning the desert into a flowering garden.

The Hagaa season started next Gu season for the months of July to September, this season rains within and around the coastal areas while the Jiilaal season started from the late of December till the end of March, its hot and harsh season for pastoralists.  Somalia receives less than 600 millimeters of rainfall annually; these numbers can change due to the climate change occurred these days to world. The average daily temperature through out the country varies from regions it ranges from 30° to 40° degrees, this can be changing some regions specially to the south where temperatures are less extreme, ranging from about 20° C to 40° C.
